Abstract

In the novel "Me and Haim," Habib Sayeh raises the issue of coexistence under the national state in the aftermath of independence, which chose unilateralism and revolutionary legitimacy as support for building a totalitarian system that does not accommodate the various components of Algerian society. whether on the linguistic, religious, intellectual or sectarian level.

And the issue of coexistence between religions, races, and cultures within societies constitutes an obstacle to totalitarian regimes, extremist ideas, and societies that are dominated by certainties, inflated ego, and swelling of the self by preference and selection at the expense of the other who is different in religion, language, or doctrine, even if he is a patriot who performs all the rights of citizenship, and therefore it was necessary to ask these questions. The following: Does the novel (Me and Haim) discuss the issue of coexistence, or is it an implicit discourse of normalization with the Israeli entity? What is the image of the Jew in Algerian society? Are the Jews one model, or are there different images?
