Abstract

This paper seeks to understand and analysis Maulana Maududi’s theory of Nationalism. Maulana Maududi was one of the most significant theorists of political Islam in the modern world. He was a political theorist as well as political activist. He developed a conceptual framework and a theory of nationalism to explain and justify his political action. Although Maulana Maududi shared with All India Muslim League the fear of Hindu Majoritarian rule, he was a strong critic of its leadership. But his differences with Muslim League are not confined to his criticism of the religious credentials of leaders of the Muslim League. He had ideological differences with Muslim League. He maintained that ‘Islam’ and ‘Nationalism’ are mutually exclusive ideological systems even if nationalism is clothed in religious dress.
