الملخص

When talking about Sufism in West and North Africa, great Sufi personalities jump to mind who played pivotal roles in different historical stages and in various geographical and human spaces within the West African region, among these sheikhs: Othman bin Foudio in Nigeria, Hajj Omar Tal in Senegal, and Sheikh Ahmadu Labo in Mali, and Sheikh Muhammad al-Hafiz bin al-Mukhtar bin al-Habib al-Alawi, and Sheikh Muhammad Fadel Mamin, and Muhammad al-Aghdaf al-Daoudi, in Mauritania. But - in my opinion - there is a Sufi figure who played a pioneering founding role that ruled the path of Sufism in West and North Africa for many centuries, and he is the figure of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Karim al-Maghili. (died 940 AH / 1533 CE), who planted the seeds of African Sufism and imprinted it with a highly effective reformist character. The Sheikh Imam presented himself well to the issue of Sufism in an era when the country was under the weight of the spread of injustice and the spread of Jewish movements in controlling all aspects of life. The sheikh played a major role in conveying Sufi thought in its correct form, and he moved it from the Maghreb to the jungles of Africa, so he went to the countries of the western swan, and his efforts extended until he reached West Africa in Nigeria. The study reached a number of results and recommendations, including: Sufism is an issue that has its roots in ancient times, and although it is an ancient issue, it has a modern perspective, and understanding it in its correct way contributes a great role in guiding the Muslim and clarifying the correct concepts in religion. The Sufi thought of Sheikh Al-Maghili was based on several foundations, including:

-           The impact of the social environment in which he was raised.

-           The impact of political and religious life in his time.

-           His view of the world and its distractions with the eye of the ascetic, the worshiper, the Mujahid.

-           His view of the emirate and the king, and his intellectual view on positions and their demise.

-           Moving and traveling from the countries of the Arab Maghreb to new countries, spreading Islam and the wise invitation to enter into it.

The study recommends paying attention to the Sheikh's history, investigation, study, and placing him in the position he deserves as an honorable image of the balanced, balanced voice.
