Human rights/ Humanitarian issues are one of the crucial human issues in modern time. Their importance has grown with the passage of time and with the flourishing of human awareness in the human world. Ghassan Kanafani’s The Land of Sad Oranges is a collection of realistic stories whose main theme is the Palestinian character. In this collection the author mentions the tragedy of the displaced Palestinian, and narrates the suffering of the Palestinians who became refugees after Israel attacked most of the Palestinian lands and expelled the Palestinians to Lebanon. Among the problems of refugees who do not have a suitable place to live, as well as many of them are unemployed, he also highlights the children leaving their schools and the pathetic health condition of refugees. These refugees are considered as a political and commercial profit. In these stories there are a variety of characters and places but the human suffering and tragedy remains the same. Thus each story in this collection reflects the human miseries in such a way that it touches the heart of the reader.
The stories are narrated through a second person narration by dialogues and stream of consciousness to show the internal thinking and feelings of the characters. The writer uses the simple expressions and phrases to formulate the sentences. These stories are best example of short story genre because all the events are briefly and amply elaborated.
This article is comprised of Introduction and two sections. The first section discusses the human issues such as injustice, patriotism, despair, criticism, brevity, fear and sadness reflected by the writer while the second section presents the technical aspect of the stories.
