The Negative and Positive Dimensions of Haste, a Specific Study in the Light of the Quran and Sunnah

This research article explores the conceptual and theological dimensions of 'Ajalah' (haste) as presented in the primary sources of Islam. In the Qur’anic context, haste is identified as an inherent human trait, yet it is frequently discussed in a cautionary manner. This study employs a qualitative and thematic approach to analyze approximately 51 Qur’anic instances where haste is mentioned, alongside relevant Prophetic traditions. The research investigates how the Islamic framework distinguishes between prohibited impulsiveness and commendable promptness in spiritual matters. Key findings highlight that while haste in worldly decision-making is often attributed to Shaitanic influence leading to regret, it is encouraged in the realm of virtuous deeds and repentance. The article concludes by providing a scholarly synthesis of classical interpretations (Tafsir) to establish a balanced ethical guideline for contemporary Muslims facing the pressures of a fast-paced modern life.
