Abstract

Allah has ordained five daily prayers and made it obligatory for Muslims to perform them. He has set numerous conditions for these prayers, including the purity of clothes. Anyone who intends to pray must ensure the purity of their clothes, just as they must ensure the purity of their body, because Allah loves purity and those who purify themselves. Prayer is an important act of worship and a form of communication with Allah, and therefore, one must be pure in every aspect, including body, place, and clothes, to engage in this communion. Consequently, Allah has mandated the purity of clothes for prayer and has commanded it in the Holy Quran. Scholars have explained the purposes of this command in their exegeses, offering intentional interpretations (maqasid-based interpretations) of this requirement. Among these scholars are the authors of "Ahkam al-Qur'an" by Al-Tahanawi and the distinguished Ibn Ashur. This study aims to interpret the verse on the purity of clothes by comparing the exegeses of "Ahkam al-Qur'an" by Al-Tahanawi and "Al-Tahrir wa Al-Tanwir" by Ibn Ashur.
