Abstract

This article discusses the comparative analysis about the concept of abrogation (Nasakh) in the Quran in the light of two seminal scholars in Islamic history, Shah Waliullah and Sir Syed Ahmed khan. The research begins with the literal and idiomatic meanings of the abrogation, its believers and non-believers, and a detailed review of the Shah Waliullah’s position in abrogation in the light of his books. Shah Waliullah limited abrogated verses to five verses in his book Alfauz -ul- Kabir delimiting the answering the limited verses to 20 by Jalaluddin Syuti.  According to the cotemporary scholars Shah Waliullah holds the position of late comers (Mutaakhireen) in abrogation. But in the findings, it is found that Shah Waliullah seems to have the position of early comers (Mutaqadimeen) who did not believe that An Ayah is abrogated forever. On the other hand, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan did not believe in abrogation at all. Thus, it was necessary to compare both of the scholars’ view about abrogation in the light of their own books.
