Abstract

The great mosque of Kufa located in the city of Kufa is considered one of the earliest mosque in the Islamic world constructed in the first century. As it is a place of worship but in addition to being a place of worship the mosque of Kufa has the political importance. Therefore, the inclusive mosque in Al-Kufa considered the most important center in the Islamic state. All political and religious, economic and social, cultural, scientific and media activities of the state happened in and around this mosque beside the affairs of the state and the citizen. All governors nominated from the Caliph gave their sermons consisting of different instruction from the pulpit of this mosque in Juma prayers and on other occasions. The mosque of Kufa remained a platform for political opposition and mobilizing the people especially during the first century. Every new governor gathered the people of Kufa and gave them different instructions according to their will and political need. Thus the mosque of Kufa played a vital religious as well as political role in Islamic history. This articles has detailed discussion on the political nature of the sermons delivered in Masjid Al Kufa during first century. The thorough research of the paper is highly significant for those who have an interest in Islamic History and Political movements.
