Analytical study of moral, social and reformation of Maulana Ashraf Ali Tanvi in the subcontinent

Abstract

ulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi born 1280 A.H./ 1864 A.D. in Thana Bahvan. He was a eminent Scholar ,Sufi ,Jurist and a reformer The Personality of  Mulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi emerged as a reformer in the different  domains of religion. His academic  and intellectual efforts are multi-dimensional in their nature and scope, Which border dominions of Islamic Tasawwuf ,social etiquettes ,politics, education and tabligh. This research study will focus on the role of Mulana Thanvi in the social reform of Subcontinent Muslims. Eighteen and nineteenth centuries were characterized  with the imperial ambitions of the western countries. This was the time ,when subcontinent encountered the colonial aspirations of the British government ,which introduced radical  social ,religious and cultural changes in the region.The British rule brought with it ,the western civilization, which had  unconnected the religious and ethical values, and  had embraced the materialism and order of secularism. This era was a great suffering for the Muslims of Subcontinent. They met with sweeping changes at the level  of political honor, social prestige, economic prosperity and culture dominance . The Muslims responded to these upheavals in different ways. The response of Mulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi was neither an absolute surrender to like other Muslims ,it was an intellectual response that used logical and philosophical arguments for the defense of traditional Islam and responded the challenges of modernity. He authored  large number of books on the mullti-dimensional issues of Islam. The most distinguished aspect of his personality was of a reformer. This study will focus on the rol of mulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi as a social reformer  purification of Muslim community, Mulana Thanvi was not only an Alim ,but also a preacher of Islam .He made several visits in the far and wide corner of Subcontinent with an aim to guide the Muslims towards the right path . He bring the reform at the social and cultural level of Muslims.
